At Viralur, WESWA organised its school and was inaugurated by the district Collector of Pudukkottai, Mr. Shanmugam I.A.S. Others who participated in the function included Viralimalai Chairman Mr. Chinnasamy, Mr. Avivikkarasu DRO, Viralur Panchayat President Mr. Karuppiah and representatives of many other non-governmental organisations.
WESWA receives assistance from the District Collector in conducting the child labour rehabilitation programme. WESWA has introduced tailoring as a mode of acquiring occupational skills. In 1999 the Managing Trustee of WESWA distributed free uniforms to the child labour community in the care of WESWA. The photo at upper right records the distribution.
On 12 March 1999 the Child Labour Society with UNICEF jointly conducted an awareness programme with the Collector leading the programme. The Pudukkottai Collector delivering the inaugural address. The students and teachers belonging to the Child Labour programme took part in a variety entertainment as shown in the photo at lower right.
On 26 February 1999 a Seminar sponsored jointly sponsored by UNICEF and the Child Labour Rehabilitation Society was conducted at Viralimalai. The Medical Officer, Commissioner, Managing Trustee of WESWA and other dignatories addressed the gathering.
The International Child Labour Day was celebrated at Viralur, Velur, and Matirapatti where WESWA Child Labour Schools are functioning. The children were trained in various activities with visionary zeal. In 1997-98, the children performed fancy dress competition.
