In 1997, WESWA arranged for a unit from All-India Radio to come to Viralimalai to interview children, child labour project director, staff and teachers. Mr. Chadrasekar, Assistant Programme Officer, is seen interviewing children who are involved in child labour.
The WESWA Managing Trustee was invited in 1998 and 1999 to speak on All-India Radio in Tiruchy. WESWA Managing Trustee Mr. Kanna recorded the programme with Mr. Thangavel of AIR.
On 17 May 1998, 55 local farmers participated in a one-day workshop sponsored by WESWA and SPIC at Viralimalai. The programme was led by Dr. Chandrasekar and was a great success. The participants evinced keenness to put into practice the latest methods taught at the workshop. Photo shows the workshop in progress.
Republic Day celebrations are held annually at the Child Labour School to
foster patriotism and pride in the children. The national flag is hoisted by the
WESWA Managing Trustee, the national anthem is played and local dignataries give
patriotic speeches.The function serves to raise awareness of duty to the
Motherland and respect to seniors, elders and martyrs of the national freedom
struggle.
